Born Johann Schmidt, the man who would be Skull was a sociopath practically from childbirth, and it only got worse when Adolph Hitler took him under his wing.  Eventually, the Red Skull broke away from Nazi Germany and began his own campaign to rule the world through fear, death, and conquest.  The Skull's body is saturated with an early form of the super soldier serum Captain America has, making him even stronger and tougher than his arch-enemy, at the cost of his appearance (a small price to pay).  The Red Skull is also a genius in the fields of engineering, battle tactics, and subterfuge.  Egotistical in the extreme, the Red Skull looks down on everyone whom he is not, viewing himself as a God amongst Men and a rightful ruler of the world.

Herr Kleiser is the adopted identity of a Chitauri shapeshifter, the only one in existence, who came to Earth during WWII to help the Nazi's win the war.  It didn't go so well for them.  As a Chitauri super soldier, Kleiser can alter any part o his body into virtually anything, from deadly knives to a huge beast of enormous size and strength.  It's also handy for infiltration and deception.  He also has access to a great deal of advanced Chitauri weaponry.  Kleiser is smug and hot-tempered, routinely taunting heroes who make mistakes (especially costly ones) in his presence and never missing a chance to gloat, but when things don't go his way he can routinely explode with destructive anger.
